Engaging Back to School Activities Every Teacher Should Know!

Hi dear teachers!!! The new school year is fast approaching for the ones in the Northern hemisphere. How exciting! In this post, I just want to share with you some of the fun activities I usually do with my learners in March (that’s when we start classes in Argentina). I really hope you find these ideas useful, they are NO PREP and super fun!

back to school ideas
  • All about me templates are a MUST to get to know your students. Find lots of templates for your students in my store! CLICK HERE.
  • Freeze Dance : Play some music and when it stops, students who move have to answer a question like: What’s your name? How old are you?
  • Rolling Back to School: Print this paper dice (find it HERE) and help your students talk about their holidays while they consolidate the past.
  • Back to School Puzzle. Ask your students to draw their favorite memory from their vacation. Then cut out their puzzle and have a friend to solve it.  CLICK HERE and download the worksheet for free!
  • Talk about classroom rules: What are rules? Why should you follow rules? Should you tell the teacher? Why? Why not?
  • The M&M’s Game: Put some  M&Ms in a jar. Students pass the jar while some music is playing in the background. When the music stops, the one with the jar takes out and M&M. Depending on the color they get, they answer a question like: Blue: What’s your name? Red: How old are you? Yellow: What’s your favorite color? etc.
  • School Bingo: If your students have learnt vocabulary related to classroom objects, you can play Bingo! Find a template HERE!
  • Game: Would you rather…? This game and its funny questions will create laugh and promote group discussion among teenagers. You can use these questions: Would you rather be a pen or a pencil? Would you rather have a 40 minute lunch period or start school 20 minutes later? Would you rather have no homework ever again or no tests ever again? You can check out my Would you rather …? Powerpoint game HERE

Because I know that you are super busy like me, it is my goal to write super short blog posts with engaging ideas for your learners. Wishing you and your students a wonderful first week back!

Love,

Paula.
