Earth day activities

Earth Day Activities for your ESL students

Are you looking for Earth day activities for your ESL students? It is so important to raise awareness about how the human species is damaging the planet earth, that I consider it essential to take the time and talk about this with our students.

Let me share with you some ideas you can apply in your classroom that will encourage learners at primary school to think about what they can do to help look after the planet. Here we go!

Plan your lesson in three easy steps!

  1. Introduce the topic of renewable and nonrenewable sources of energy and use it as a springboard to talk about why we need to take care of our planet and its resources. If you need a colorful and child-friendly presentation for your learners, click HERE!
  2. Consolidate what students have learned through word searches, video clips, listening activities, writing tasks, and reflection moments. If you need a ready-to-go packet full of activities to do with your learners, VISIT MY STORE!
  3. Use a game or quiz to assess student understanding of the topic. Find a fun quiz on my youtube channel. CLICK HERE!

  • Take a field trip to a local park or nature preserve to learn more about the environment and the impact that humans have on it.
  • Teach how to compost.
  • Have students create a project or poster highlighting ways to reduce their carbon footprint.
  • Have learners research and write a paper on an environmental issue they are passionate about and present their findings to the class.

No matter how you choose to teach about Earth Day, the important thing is to help students understand why taking care of our planet is important and how they can be part of the solution. I really hope these activities are useful and engaging for your students. Don’t hesitate to write to me telling me how you did!

I’m rooting for you.

Paula.
