Short Films your students will love watching
Have you ever thought of showing your learners short films that will make them feel excited and moved at the same time? You can teach vocabulary, introduce a grammar concept, discuss a topic, and reflect on something. They can also be valuable springboards for writing and speaking. Let me give you some suggestions on some short films your students will love watching!
Short Films for kids
- The Present: The Present is a gripping short film with a beautiful twist by Jacob Frey, which deals with the themes of empathy, teenagers, and disability.
- Hair Love: It tells the story of a young girl, Zuri, who tries to style her natural hair by following in her hair vlogger mom’s footsteps in an online video tutorial. When her mom is no longer around, Zuri’s father tries to step in and style her hair to the best of his ability.
- Snack Attack: It is the story of an old lady and her intention to eat some snacks (cookies). She can’t do it peacefully because a teenager, sitting by her side, thought her cookies were his!
Short Movies for Teenagers
- Allegro: This short movie is about an older man learning English and the different techniques he uses to do so.
- I Forgot My Phone: I Forgot My Phone is a thought-provoking movie by Miles Crawford, which helps students reflect on their addiction to mobile phones.
- The Notebook: The notebook is fantastic for introducing the theme of empathy. It can be used to get students to learn and practice vocabulary related to household chores.
Get into the Halloween spirit with these short films
- Alma: A young girl sees a doll that looks exactly like her in the window of a toy shop. When she steps inside and touches the doll, she becomes trapped inside of it.
- Foxed: It tells the story of a girl kidnapped by foxes and forced to work in secret underground mines.
