Storyboards for Creative Writing and Storytelling

Storyboards for Creative Writing and Storytelling

Do your ESL students need a fun way to practice narrative skills? Luckily, there are some great resources out there to help you work through some roadblocks with storytelling and creative writing. Have you heard of Storyboards? They are a great way to visualize the structure of a story, set the stage for creative writing, and practice retelling. Also, they are excellent tools to prepare learners for more complex narrative skills.

Benefits of using storyboards

  1. They help students get a clear idea of the structure of a story!
  2. They are great for narrative writing and storytelling.
  3. They can be a compelling form of self-expression and creativity, allowing students to explore their feelings and emotions in a safe and creative way.

How do I use my Storyboards?

Students must look at the board and tell the story to move forward. When they arrive at each space, they get points. If they manage to finish the story, they will get 10 points. If they get stuck, a classmate can follow the story and help them to continue with the narrative.

You can print these storyboards and laminate them so you can use them multiple times, or you can use them digitally!

To sump, visuals help bring meaning and power to words. ESL students’ ideas are more transparent and straightforward when they have complementary visuals that help them to tell their stories.
